This was originally a creative project that I created for a graduate class on technology in US history at Northeastern University. I downloaded and georectified a souvenir map of the World’s Columbian Exposition that occurred Chicago, Illinois in 1893. From there, I created a shapefile layer for particular buildings on the site that related to the theme of the class, and created brief descriptions for each. Using digitized books from the Library of Congress and the photo collection from the Field Museum in Chicago, I included historic photographs or drawings with each entry.
Because of the data size of the project, I cannot publish it to this website. Instead, here’s a brief video showing off the functions of the map and some of the entries that I created.
